About:
Ashish Ranjan Kumar is an assistant professor of mining engineering in the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. He received his undergraduate in mining engineering from the Indian School of Mines working on airflow modeling around different airfoils of a mine ventilation fan. He held a summer research fellowship at the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, and worked on reflection seismology applications to underwater seamounts. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky researching dust scrubbers. He, later, worked as a post-doctoral scholar and was co-PI on NIOSH-funded research on novel dust filters. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Missouri University of Science and Technology and taught six courses in the Department of Mining and Explosives Engineering. He, subsequently, worked on underground mine fire and acid-mist suppression efficacy of surfactants in copper electrowinning plants as an assistant research professor. He has worked extensively on mining dust suppression and holds two patents on novel maintenance-free impingement and vortex-type dust filters. He is interested in the automation and control of mining systems. He has expertise in multi-phase computational fluid dynamics models and aerosols transportation.
Research Interests:
• Mine automation and control
• Battery safety
• Aerosol transportation and dust filtration
