About:

Miller is a research professor and interim director of the EMS Energy Institute. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of North Dakota. Since 1981, Miller has been performing energy research and development and program/project management. He began his career at the University of North Dakota Energy & Environmental Research Center prior to joining Penn State in 1987, where his charge was to develop industrial-based research at the Combustion Laboratory (precursor to the Energy Institute), with a focus on increased assistance to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania companies. Miller has been the principal investigator (PI) of co-PI of more than $66M in sponsored research and the project lead or project manager for more than $5M in research at Penn State. He has managed the engineering, procurement, and construction of pilot- and demonstration-scale facilities, and coordinated multidisciplinary activities for major projects and research consortia. Miller has authored four books and authored/co-authored one edited book, eight book chapters, 155 refereed articles and conference papers, and more than 130 final reports to federal, state, and industrial sponsors.
