About:

Maryam Tabatabaei is an Assistant Research Professor in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, Energy Institute at Pennsylvania State University. She earned a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, an M.Sc. in Structural Mechanics and Materials, and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, all from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. She worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University from 2016 to 2018, where she developed a computational framework for the elastic-plastic analysis of architected cellular microstructures. She pursued her career as a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University from 2018 to 2021. She has been conducting research aimed at improving wellbore integrity, with a focus on limiting the environmental damage that results from oil and gas leakages. She has published 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 peer-reviewed conference articles, two book chapters, and one US patent.

Research Interests:

• Continuum mechanics
• Mechanics of defects at the material scale
• Wellbore integrity
