About:

Karpyn is Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research, a professor, program chair, and Quentin and Louise Wood Endowed Faculty Fellow in petroleum and natural gas engineering. She holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Penn State. Karpyn specializes in multiphase flow and transport in porous media and X-ray computed tomography. Karpyn is a recipient of the Faculty Early Career Development Award by the National Science Foundation and the Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching from Penn State. She is the Energi Simulation Chair in Fluid Behavior and Rock Interactions, was a Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar, and was a BIG10 Academic Leadership Fellow. She has also served as an associate editor of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, assistant editor-in-chief of the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, and associate editor of Transport in Porous Media.
